Addressing My Removed Music Catalog: Why I Deleted 99+ Songs

Why the Industry’s "Default" System is Broken

Removing my 99+ songs was a bold move.

It was an entire music catalog that earned Chartmetric accolades: Top 100K Hip-Hop/Rap Artist in the world, and Top 50K R&B, Soul & Funk Artist in the world.

It was something that had to be done, and I'll explain exactly why.

Why I Traded Vanity Metrics for a System

I removed my entire music catalog for many reasons, but the initial obstacles were technical:

  • Over-saturated beat use

  • Quality control issues

  • Expiring beat license agreements

But the most important reason? I had to rebrand and implement a system that will outwork and outperform social media and music streaming platforms.

I don't like having to act out skits or be constantly visible. I prefer creating and sharing the music and marketing it authentically.

I needed a system that doesn't take away from my creative time but allows me to help other independent artists along the way.

See, if you’re an independent artist, you know that we do it all!

That means I’m a one-person operation, controlling the logistics, the distribution, and the perception of the music.

That's where things got messy.

Rough Drafts vs. Precision Infrastructure

Majority of my 99+ songs were removed in April 2024, with the last three ('Coffee', ‘Long Hair, and 'Loud') following in April 2025.

This wasn't a sudden thought; it was a strategic execution that began years ago.

The removal came from understanding that my online presence was a disaster.

  • My songs were mixed with other artists on streaming platforms, leading to copyright issues and incorrect payouts.

  • The system was merging my work with low-quality artwork and genres, where I was a Hip-Hop/R&B artist being categorized with electric/house genres.

  • I was fighting an uphill battle, taking hits from streaming platform algorithms that were ruining my name and newly implemented brand.

All of this was out of my control.

I was simply an artist sending emails, waiting weeks for support, while my stream traction plummeted, leading to dislikes from listeners who expected electronic/house genres, and not hip-hop, rap, and R&B.

I realized I was fighting broken, automated systems.

As an independent artist, if you don't control your Metadata and SEO, the platforms will categorize you by mistake.

You become a 'temp worker' for an algorithm that doesn't care about your brand.

I took the hits so you can start with a Precision-Engineered Foundation.

Why Ownership is the Only Solution

I had to ask myself: "Do I accept the mix-ups, or do I do what is necessary for the long-term vision?"

I was genuinely afraid of losing the fans who found my music.

The fans who never pre-saved, never subscribed, and never bought anything. The fear of those vanity metrics (stream and follower counts) dwindling was real.

But I realized that holding onto a broken, diluted system was more damaging than resetting.

The removal of that catalog was removing the 'rough drafts' of my music career.

In executing these past 8 years, I uploaded the rough work; by simply showing up, I received those solid top artist accolades in over-saturated genres.

My music journey taught me the value of integrity, discipline, and using my experiences to redefine my brand.

I know independent artists don't want to lose years of their work fighting automated systems. I took the hits, so you don't have to.

Fixing The Issues of Automated Systems

Before thinking you have to remove all your songs and start from scratch, I'll provide you with the necessary steps to alleviate the stress of cleaning up the mess you didn't make.

If your song gets mixed with a different genre or artist, no worries. It can be fixed... most of the time.

Here's what to do and expect before submitting that support ticket:

  • Ensure all meta data for your song is correct, such as artist name, producer name, ISRC and UPC barcode.

  • Take a screenshot of the artist/genre profile - proving that your song is on the wrong artist/genre profile. (This also works if another artists song is showing up on your artist profile.)

  • Next, email support by being specific about the issues you're encountering. (Most platforms provide an easy support ticket system) and if it allows, include your artist name, producer name, ISRC and barcode (this will help expedite the process.)

As your support ticket is being processed, double-check your other songs, to ensure they aren't experiencing the same issues as the one you encountered.

The support team will usually reach out or have it resolved in 3-7 business days, pending on the severity of the issue.

PRO-TIP: always attach your beat license agreement to your first response. It stops the "back-and-forth" by proving ownership immediately.

Of course, each issue is unique and should be treated as such. The advice given should adhere to your own due diligence.

To bypass this support ticket system, I found that having a system I owned eliminated this algorithmic mess up by operating like a CEO.
